Couples Modernes

Árpád Szenes, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva

Centre Pompidou Metz, France

The exhibition Couples modernes explores the creative process generated by the romantic, passionate, complex and sometimes turbulent relationships that unite the avant-garde artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The intimate and loving life of artists is reflected through the works, deliberately intended to be exhibited in public. Beyond the sentimental value, the exhibition reveals unknown collaborations, and also sheds light on these great creators of modernity and the evolution of their intellectual reflexion.

The gallery lends for this exhibition the painting Composition 55, by Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, and a photograph showing the couple Maria Helena Vieira da Silva and Árpád Szenes in their studio.
