The Centre Pompidou dedicates a vast exhibition to cubism, encompassing a historical panorama of the movement in Paris between 1907 and 1917, thus broadening the view of the spectator on this artistic trend.

The exhibition highlights the evolution of cubism, reflecting the formal progression of the movement and showing the technical revolutions : the invention of glued paper, collages and formal constructions of Braque, Picasso, Gris and Laurens. The exhibition also highlights the importance and the prestige of the cubist constellation, such as its relationship to literature.

The period of the Second World War, which mobilizes of exiles artists and their supporters, is traced through works by artists form the war front (Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Fernand Léger) or from foreign artists such as Pablo Picasso arriving in France.
These works are a testemony of the cubist mouvement’s final sterilisation, as it is struck by history.

For this exhibition, the gallery lends two works by the artist Henri Laurens, Nature morte (1915) and Tête (1915).
