About Juana Muller: female sculptors and painters in Paris

Vera Pagava

Maison des Arts, Antony, France

The exhibition “About Juana Muller: female sculptors and painters in Paris – 1940/1960” offers an overview of sculptor Juana Muller’s career (1911-1952) covering almost twenty years of her creation along with works by other women artists she frequented, through a selection of 60 works.

On this occasion, the gallery lends a painting by Georgian artist Vera Pagav (1907-1988). After studying at the School of Decorative Arts and the School of Art and Advertising in Paris, she turned towards painting and integrated André Lhote’s atelier in 1929. The Galerie Jeanne Bucher first presented her work in 1944 along with Dora Maar – the show was received with great enthusiasm and Picasso himself notices the quality of Pagava’s painting. Then, she had several exhibitions until 1960, alone or with other artists such as Juana Muller in 1947.
