Max Ernst

Fondation de l'Hermitage, Lausanne, Suisse

In collaboration with La Cinémathèque française and Réunion des Musées Métropolitain Rouen Normandy, the Hermitage Foundation is opening a new chapter of the exploration of artistic modernity, by focusing on the links between Fine Arts and the moving picture – one of the great 20th Century visual revolution.

Adapting a project first shown at CaixaForum of Madrid and Barcelona (2017) as well as  the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen (2020), the exhibition  illustrates the exchanges and reciprocal influences between filmmakers and visual artists, from the early films of the end of the 19th Century up until the French New Wave in the 1950-60s. Focusing on the visual arts, the Lausanne exhibition brings together extracts, posters and film models with sculptures, drawings, photographs and paintings.

The gallery lends for this exhibition, three works by Max Ernst. Two works on paper from the serie Histoire Naturelle, published by the gallery in 1926 as well as the work Système de Monnaie Solaire, 1925.
