In May 1939, in a climate more and more deleterious for progressive artists, the gallery organized the first Parisian exhibition of her works (and those of Jean Arp) since 1930. Her paintings and watercolors were exhibited alongside her woodcuts, on which she had been working since 1936. These consisted of simple geometric forms either applied onto a rectangular background or cut out.
