The new exhibition of Japanese artist Susumu Shingu displays a dozen mobile sculptures designed for indoor locations, together with drawings and sketches. The show will also include a preview of the diorama Breathing Earth, a self-sufficient village project relying on the naturel energy of wind, water and sunlight.
Starting out from scientific research on movement, based on observation of the nature of the human body and of nature, Susumu Shingu has created and installed several hundred wind and water sculptures around the world, all of them mobile, dancing, polyphonic, playful, sometimes kites, birds flowers, trees, clouds …
Produced by the gallery for the exhibition, a 33-minute film by the German director Thomas Riedelsheimer (author of Rivers and Tides, Andy Goldsworthy, Working with Time), shows the artist talking about his work and his research while unveiling his sculptures in their natural settings.
