For its autumn exhibition, the Kunstmuseum of Ahrenshoop in Germany presents a selection of nearly 120 drawings by Hanns Schimansky. Born in 1949, Hanns Schimansky works exclusively on drawings since 1979 and is now recognized as a major draughtsman in Germany.
The exhibition presents together passed and recent works, clearly highlighting that the sophisticated gesture of his latest drawings hards back to the early ones. The exhibition covers the entire artistic development of the artist, from intimate to more monumental works, comprising different drawing techniques. Black and white or intense colorful pencil, ink, chalk drawings emerge on prepared or un-prepared paper sheets of different pure and mixed textures. The folding technique is very important to Schimansky as it guides him into a drawing process, which is always unconventional and surprising.
