Published in 1937 by Jean Bucher, Yves Tanguy’s “Cri de la méduse” featured three drawings of the great surrealist painter illustrating the poems of Henri Pastoureau. The following year, his meticulous, inspired works were exhibited at the boulevard du Montparnasse gallery. In their June 3, 1938 issue, the magazine Beaux-Arts would describe his work in these terms: “One cannot refuse him a respect commanded at once by the quality of his work and the impression of sincerity that emanates naturally from it.
