Exhibited twice by Jeanne Bucher in 1942 and 1944, then by Jean-François Jaeger in 1948, Déchelette, a figure in the Naïve Art movement, invites us to reflect − or smile − with his scenes of daily life, popular entertainments, and sentimental, realistic and humorous compositions. He showed a particular taste for wordplay and puns, which one often finds illustrated in the corner of his paintings.
