La Ligne Claire

Hanns Schimansky

Marais Space

The exhibition, entitled La Ligne claire, presents 40 drawings by German artist Hanns Schimansky made between 2007 and 2010. These drawing, written as much as drawn, attempt to capture and prolong the present moment, to mirror the rhythm of the universe. Using and provoking the idea of chance, he metaphorically slows the headlong peed at witch we live in today’s world, dominated as it is by the media. Schimansky is deeply interested in improvised music, an influence which can be clearly seen in the rythmic aspect of his drawings. His works are full of movement, dizzying, just like waves or gusts of wind, “sung landscapes”. To the question about being a draftsman today, he replies “Opposing something to that vertiginous media world. Slowing down.”
