The eagerly-awaited first Parisian show of Otto Freundlich celebrated his sixtieth birthday, in June 1938. The presentation at the gallery of his pacific manifesto “Hommage aux peuples de couleur” (1935), an affirmation of his unshakeable faith in the brotherhood of all humanity, was the object of a call for contribution for its acquisition by the French State, signed by Kandinsky, Braque, Picasso, and Léger, among others.
